Where evolution is science, it represents no challenge to the Jesus Story. Where it becomes a challenge, it isn't science.
"Purpose" is not a scientifically measureable quantity. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. There is nothing scientific about claims that evolution is devoid of purpose
